'Tis the season for this sort of thing, I think.

Honestly, I'm just procrastinating on writing my Mali fic for the Africander Fic-A-Thon and this seemed to be the perfect way to do it.

Hey! Don't blame me! Blame raedbard who I gakked this from.

My favorite story (of my own): I'm actually going to break this down into two different choices. My favorite novel-length story is Whisper, hands down. I think the plot is solid, the Scooby interaction is fun, and it's utterly lacking in 'ship elements. It's not the most technically proficient or the most complicated, but I still remain the most proud of it. My favorite short story is Cuckoo in the Nest because it was probably the first story I ever wrote where I let myself walk into a pretty dark place. It was liberating in a way.

Story most tragically underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: In general, I don't feel underappreciated as a rule. But if I had to choose a story that I think is underappreciated, I'd say Mars Rising. I think it's usually deeply misunderstood by certain segments of the Buffy fanfic reading contingent as a character-bashing piece if they just read it through the once. People who give it a second chance tend to catch on to the real deal, but if there's a perception of character bashing, a lot of people won't do it.

Most fun story: It's not even a contest. The Slayer of Pine Cove, California is so light and fluffy, that you'd think it was a Krispy Kreme donut. It's so completely silly, that it boggles even my mind. This is probably why I don't think it's underappreciated at all.

Story with the single sexiest moment: Yeeeep! I don't do sexy! I suck at sexy! If we can go for sexy with laughs, I'd have to go with the mentally time tripping Willow grabbing Faith's ass in Living History.

Most unintentionally telling story: Ooooo, I've got several candidates for this one. There are more than a few chapters of Water Hold Me Down that, if you knew me in RL beyond what I've said in this LJ, are waaaaaay too telling about me. Contrite Spirits is another one that says too much about me if you know what to look for and where to look for it. And, every single interview segment in Living History is also very revealing on a frightening level.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for me" story: Dismay, for a lot of not-obvious reasons. If there was a category for "most overrated story" in this meme, I'd definitely put this one there. It's stunning how many people look for this one.

Hardest story to write: It's a toss-up between Ishmael Sings of the White Whale and the WIP The Acme Heartbreak Repair Kit. Both of them were so far outside my comfort zone, that I couldn't see it even with the Hubble Telescope.

Worst story: I've got a clear candidate that stands head and shoulders above the others. I had an axe to grind and I showed it with flying colors. It can be considered slightly bash-y. It was written during S7. Yes, it's on line. I keep it there to remind myself that I can really suck the big one at times. And no, I'm not linking to it. Ever.

Easiest story to write: Strange as this sounds, A Gift of Ordinary Magic was written in one sitting and took a total of six hours to write, cut, fill in the cracks with more writing, edit, and proofread. I didn't post it until after Christmas because of my schedule and because I wanted to proofread it one more time.

Story I'd like to revise (but probably won't): People may be surprised, but all-in-all, I'd love to do a serious revision of Revelations. It's my first Buffy fic and, boy howdy, it shows. There's a lot I like in it (Giles's chapter, Faith's first chapter, and Buffy's final chapter), but there's also a lot that's very heavy-handed (exposition, ahoy!). But given the mess that resulted from it, I think I'll let this sleeping dog stay asleep.

Story I wish I'd finished: The WIPs I've posted here will be finished, but there's one WIP that I never posted here, but the first few parts were posted elsewhere on a closed Yahoo!Group, that I'll never finish called When You're Falling. It was originally meant to be a DarkXander fic, but I very quickly realized that I have zero talent for writing an NC-17 story. There were three elements that I did think are worth salvaging, though. Xander's emotional alienation and death wish in When You're Falling ended up serving as the basic concept behind Mars Rising, although with very different results. The concept of what happens when someone is bitten by a vampire ended up in this chapter of Water Hold Me Down. Xander's and Faith's "hunting game" they play through the streets of Cleveland as part of Faith's bid to bring Xander under control and keep an eye on him until he gets his head on straight is another one I plan to use someday, but don't know if I'll ever get the chance since nothing on my plate has room for it. Although "the hunting game" isn't at all a sex game, it is sexually charged.

Story I didn't write but swear I will, someday: I've actually been getting the urge to write a Spike-Xander gen buddy-type fic with the two of them snarking on each other while they have to run a minor errand as part of a bigger plan being carried out elsewhere. More specifically, a Shanshued Spike and Xander. The snark would be fast and furious on both sides I'd think.
