A lie on the throne is a lie still, and truth in a dungeon is truth still.

I'm in a bit of a mood today. It's rainy. It's icky.

So, naturally, my thoughts turn to fics that are truly off the beat and path.

zgirl714 wrote a truly amazing and truly unique story called The Einherjar. It's so delicately balanced between despair and hope that it'll make your heart hurt and tears come to your eyes at the end. She rates it an R, although I have no idea why since it strikes me as more of a PG. Wesley and Xander meet up in Vallhalla. It's about loss and redemption and recapturing the self when all seems to be lost. This is all about Raganorak of the soul, baby! Go, read, give big love.

aadler is one of those writers that makes me jealous as all hell. He's still got one of the most unique takes and styles among all the Buffy-verse writers of my acquaintance. He's an awesome mystery writer who knows how to sucker-punch you with a twist right before the end. Even though you know it's coming, you always find yourself laying on your back and blinking up at the ceiling when he lands the blow. He pulls off yet another awesome one in Beg to Differ. It's about a Watcher and the vampire who shares his soul seeking vengeance and justice. With right crosses and double-crosses, you can't be sure that what you see is what you get. To give away more would completely ruin the story. You must go read. Now. Then leave slavering feedback.

Oh, and two music downloads from YSI, just because I can't possibly be the only person who needs a pick-me-up.

Postal Workers Cancelling Stamps at the University of Ghana Post Office has got whistling, rhythm, and a chair-dancing beat.

Good Rats — Dropkick Murphys because, damn I need something punkish to get the blood pumping today.

I've just upgraded to the latest version of Firefox which...sheesh, I feel like I'm surfing while surrounded by a fortress. The interface and protections are slightly different, so it takes a little getting used to.

I do love that JavaScript and Flash killer thing-ies they've got, but I have to "teach" it which sites are okay and which aren't. Plus the Adblocker is very much improved over its older incarnation and now comes paired with a nifty list of ads to block (download separately) that gets continuously updated. I'm shockingly add-free at the moment. Hell, I don't even get ads or drop-down boxes on Megaupload or YouSendIt any more. *floves*

Also, vast improvements in DL ability. Firefox always used to crash on me if I tried to DL too much or too fast. I'd say the 1.5 build is massively, massively more stable than the 1.1 I had.

But best. tool. evah?

gSpace. No kidding. It's an upload interface that literally turns your Gmail account into file storage. I've been playing with it all morning sending MP3 files through it and...let's just say it's a hell of a lot faster and smoother than just emailing the damn file. Plus, it gets around that pesky 10 MB limit that GMail has on attachments.

Damn, I am impressed with this thing.

Another good addition, it's now a hell of a lot easier to remove extensions. Now you can do it with a click of the button, so, thank heavens for that.

Overall, now that I'm used to the new Firefox and extensions, I'm duly impressed.
